Role

In 2022, I was a Product designer at Whip. My main role was to improve the user experience of their cargo shipment platform. I worked with a designer and an engineer to build the mobile application that ensures safe shipments from point A to B.

Problems

The combination of unfavorable profit sharing and unreasonable payment terms from brokers creates a race to the bottom mentality in the logistics industry.

Drivers

  • Unfavorable profit sharing
  • Unreasonable payment terms when working with brokers
  • Can have a secondary role in customer’s overall experience
  • Shipment feels unsecure, cargo shows up damaged

Customers

  • Lack of pricing transparency when looking for the right driver
  • Hard to track cargo
  • Low industry standards
  • Varied quality
  • Cannot usually see their cargo en-route
  • Customers typically experience

Solution

Whip sets the new standard for transparency, communication, and ease-of-use.

Process

I started with asking the team some information about cars and media that they liked to find common ground with how to approach tone and copy. To find easy wins, we analyzed the car shipping industry, identified pain points of outdated software, and crafted targeted solutions to find the right positioning for Whip.
